When additive small-batch production makes sense
Small batches are useful for product launches, spare-part stocks, manufacturing aids, personalised variants and limited demand. The sensible quantity depends on part size, print time, material, finishing and alternative processes, so there is no universal upper limit.
Geometry can change without producing a new injection mould. Nevertheless, additive production still requires a controlled file version and defined requirements.
Approval part, version and repeatability
An approval part is recommended before production for new or function-critical geometries. The approved file, material, orientation, relevant process settings and agreed finishing are then associated with the order.
Repeatability does not imply that every property is guaranteed identical without agreed inspection criteria. Functional dimensions, visible surfaces, colour, marking and inspection effort are defined beforehand.
Variants and cost drivers
Numbering, lettering, size or colour variants may be possible within one batch. Whether variants can be produced together depends on geometry and setup effort.
Important cost drivers include part volume, machine time, material, failure risk, finishing, inspection, packaging and batch size. Where useful, the quotation separates one-off modelling or setup work from recurring manufacturing cost.

Frequently asked questions
How many parts count as a small batch?
That depends on the component and the economic comparison. Even a few identical functional parts can be planned as a batch; larger quantities require a process comparison.
Can I reorder the same part later?
Yes. A documented, unchanged data set makes repeat orders easier. Material availability and current capacity are confirmed for each order.
Can every unit be personalised?
Many lettering, numbering or colour variants are possible. The additional effort is calculated from the actual data.
