Technical and artistic modelling
Technical modelling follows dimensions, functions, fits and manufacturing requirements. It is used for replacement parts, enclosures, brackets, jigs and prototypes. Artistic modelling focuses more strongly on visual language, figures, ornaments and creative references.
For both areas, requirements and permitted source material must be clarified first. Trademarks, protected designs or third-party characters are not reproduced without sufficient usage rights.
Which source information helps?
A dimensioned sketch should identify the main dimensions, holes, wall thicknesses and interfaces. Photos need a visible reference scale and several viewpoints. A physical sample enables additional measurements and a better assessment of the installation situation.
Existing STEP or native CAD data is generally more suitable for changes than an STL mesh. Damaged or incomplete meshes can require additional repair work.
Revisions, file formats and rights
Scope, assumptions, revision rounds, approvals and pricing basis are agreed before work begins. Renders or intermediate versions support coordination, while function-critical dimensions must be identified explicitly.
The quotation states which files are delivered at completion. An STL, STEP, CAD or source file is only included when expressly agreed. Usage rights and rights to customer-supplied material are documented as well.

Frequently asked questions
Can a 3D model be created from photos alone?
Good photos with reference dimensions may be sufficient for simple geometry. Fits and hidden features generally require additional dimensions or a physical sample.
Do I automatically receive the native CAD file?
No. The output format and file rights are agreed before work begins and stated in the quotation.
Can an existing STL file be modified?
Some changes are possible. Depending on mesh quality and the scope of change, a clean reconstruction can be more economical.
