SLA and resin 3D printing for fine detail

SLA 3D printing uses light to cure liquid resin and enables fine detail and even surfaces. 3DOrder uses the process when detail, small features or surface appearance matter more than a particularly large build volume.

When SLA or resin is useful

SLA suits visual models, detailed figures, small enclosures, presentation parts and prototypes with fine features. Whether a resin suits a functional application is assessed from the actual material and intended use.

Very thin structures, enclosed cavities and large solid volumes may need design changes. Orientation affects support contact points and visible surfaces.

Build volume, detail and post-processing

Individual parts up to approximately 218.88 × 122.88 × 220 mm are possible. Larger models may be split and joined depending on shape, but seams and finishing need early planning.

The process includes support strategy, washing and final UV post-curing. Support marks can remain visible; sanding, priming or painting can be agreed separately.

Resin selection and limits

Resins differ significantly in surface, toughness, temperature behaviour and other properties. Binding statements only apply to the actual material and agreed application.

Food contact, medical use, permanent outdoor exposure, open flames and other regulated or safety-relevant uses require separate assessment and possibly evidence not automatically included with printing.

Frequently asked questions

Is SLA always more accurate than FDM?

SLA often enables finer detail and smoother surfaces, but achievable dimensional accuracy still depends on geometry, orientation, material and finishing.

Are support marks visible?

Contact points can remain visible after support removal depending on orientation. Critical visible surfaces should be identified first.

Can large SLA models be made?

Individual parts are limited by build volume. Segmentation may be possible, but it requires suitable seams and finishing.
